Opportunities in IT for B.Tech Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation graduates and other Non IT students.

The evolving job opportunities in IT through the recent years highlight the efficacy of the immense job openings in both Networking and Software sectors in minimizing the uncertainty among the technocrats in fixing a better career.  The intermittent economic slowdowns and labor crisis that had occurred globally, highlights the vulnerability of various economic activities and the allied job opportunities in maintaining a sustainable and predictive growth potential. Clearly, the most reliable and potential opportunity that spans almost all the economic, demographic, business, social, environmental activities and that ensures a long-term welfare of millions of people in this fragile ecosystem is IT and IT enabled technology services.

The NASSCOM “Perspective 2020” report identifies the industry’s long term certainties and evolving prospects in the field of IT. The report highlights that “The Indian IT industry has grown from USD 2 billion in export revenues in 1998 to USD 47 billion today, employing over two million people. Its impact on the Indian economy and stakeholders, including customers and employees, remains unparalleled…the forthcoming challenges and new opportunities will drive the export revenues to USD 175 billion by 2020.” This is viewed with great expectation by the entrepreneurs and tech-savvys in India and worldwide.

Truly, this wave is quite predominant in the Indian IT industry as we witnessed an enormous job opportunities that is happening in both Networking and Software platform. Interestingly, as pointed out by NASSCOM it has become evident that the job opportunities and prospects that arising in Networking sector is more than five times than that in the Software platform. Moreover the Indian industry witness a huge migration of the B.Tech professionals from various engineering trades like Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation  to IT and related domain for better prospects.

However, to stand with the current of time is a global trend but to be smart in the choice is essential for success. The studies on careful examination of the work force in IT, brings to the notice that engineering graduates from non IT background is not as successful as that of the graduates with CS or MCA in the Software development platform. The technical competence, programming skills, knowledge on oops concepts etc of Non IT professionals lag much behind the CS professionals.

Interestingly, the professionals from non IT background is found to be much successful in Networking, Open Stack Architectural Designs, Cloud Computing platforms etc, It is because they have a good background knowledge of Hardware and Network concepts. In the recent news it is evident that only about 15% of the professionals are found to be employable with the needed competence to fill up the requirements for high profile Networking Jobs. Since the mastery of the technology is a mandatory necessity in Networking Industry updating of the Networking technologies and appropriate certifications stands out in getting the be best deal.

Outlining the challenges and opportunities ahead in the Indian IT industry, initiatives and efforts by the B.Tech professionals and other Non IT scholars is essential to enhance the employability in Networking, so as to reap the best benefits and long-term opportunities that is sustainable in the competing global destinations.
