.NET senses the complete freedom of open source project
Though the shift of .NET to complete open source would not have even dreamt of under the first two CEOs, The new regime of Microsoft now is gradually exhaling the breadth of hostility towards openness and inhales the fresh fragrance of freedom from open source community. The reception of Microsoft to the open source community was deliberate and warm, and it marks a milestone moment for Microsoft as it announces the open sourcing of the entire .NET framework and recognizes the reality that open-source model of software is ought to be the future.
Microsoft divulges that as a part of open source version of .NET, it intends to make framework cross platform so that developers could craft .NET application that can run on either Linux or Mac OS. Though the .NET foundation created by Microsoft has come up with several initiatives to strengthen the future of .NET ecosystem by endorsing openness, community participation and rapid innovation, this news marks the realization of Microsoft’s aggressive move of attracting developers who are working in variety of open-source technologies to build cloud applications comprising of multiple components. Hence now both the .NET and Azure team is comfortable with Microsoft’s cross platform programming model.
