The New RHCA Certification Paths
A More Focused and Streamlined Roadmap for IT Professionals
The technology landscape is evolving rapidly with the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Automation, Hybrid Cloud, Kubernetes, DevOps, and Cloud-native Infrastructure.
To align with these enterprise trends, Red Hat has restructured its prestigious Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) certification program into a more specialization-oriented framework.
The updated RHCA model now provides:
- clearer specialization pathways,
- role-aligned certification tracks,
- simplified progression toward architect-level credentials,
- and stronger alignment with modern enterprise technology domains.
What Has Changed in the RHCA Program?
Previously, professionals could combine certifications from different technology domains to achieve a general RHCA designation.
Under the updated structure, RHCA certifications are now awarded as track-specific architect credentials such as:
- RHCA in Enterprise Linux
- RHCA in OpenShift
- RHCA in Ansible Automation
- RHCA in Cloud-native Applications
- RHCA in AI
RHCA Is Now More Streamlined After RHCE

The 5 New RHCA Tracks

RHCA in Enterprise Linux
Certification Roadmap
Linux Fundamentals → EX200 → EX342 + 3 Higher module Exams → RHCA in Enterprise Linux

Key Skills
- Enterprise Linux administration
- Security hardening
- High availability clustering
- Performance optimization
RHCA in OpenShift
Certification Roadmap
Linux + Containers + Kubernetes Basics → EX280 → EX380 + 3 Higher module Exams (EX316 / EX336 /EX370 / EX430 / EX432 / EX229 / EX480) → RHCA in OpenShift

Key Skills
- Kubernetes orchestration
- Hybrid cloud operations
- Cluster security
- Multi-cluster management
RHCA in Ansible Automation
Certification Roadmap
Linux + Scripting Fundamentals → RHCSA → RHCE + 3 Higher module Exams (EX374 / EX457 / EX467 / EX417) → RHCA in Ansible Automation

Key Skills
- Infrastructure automation
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Network automation
- Enterprise orchestration
RHCA in Cloud-native Applications
Certification Roadmap
Containers + CI/CD + Microservices Basics → EX188 -> EX288 + 3 Specialist Exams → RHCA in Cloud-native Applications

Key Skills
- Microservices architecture
- Containerized deployment
- Event-driven applications
- Modern application lifecycle management
RHCA in AI
Certification Roadmap
Linux + Containers + Python + AI Fundamentals → RHCSA → RHCE → 3 AI Specialist Exams → RHCA in AI
Key Skills
- AI infrastructure operations
- MLOps workflows
- Enterprise AI deployment
- Scalable AI environments
AI Is Increasing the Importance of Linux, Kubernetes, and Automation
Modern AI infrastructure depends heavily on Linux platforms, containers, Kubernetes, automation frameworks, and hybrid cloud operations. As organizations adopt Generative AI, MLOps, and cloud-native AI systems, professionals with expertise in Linux, automation, Kubernetes, and AI operations are expected to play a major role in enterprise technology transformation.
Choosing the Right RHCA Track

Important Note: Cross-Track Certifications Are No Longer Allowed
Under the new framework, specialist certifications must belong to the same RHCA track. For example, OpenShift specialist exams cannot be combined with Ansible specialist exams.

Final Thoughts
The redesigned RHCA program introduces a more structured and specialization-driven certification pathway for enterprise technology professionals. With focused architect tracks, reduced post-RHCE certification requirements, and dedicated pathways for AI, automation, Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies, the updated RHCA framework offers professionals a clearer roadmap toward advanced enterprise expertise.
