It’s a drizzle-flecked Saturday in the front office counselling desk of a reputed IT learning service providers, the counsellor bit relaxed sipping a mug of hot coffee. It was then a throb of restlessness began to penetrate into the blend of cold day and hot coffee. A young guy seems bit confused, which could be very well read from his face, entered into the cabin. On offering him a seat, the conversation began. The guy in haste posed a number of questions about his uncertainties mostly scrambled and ambiguous as he seem.  The counsellor asked him to relax first and offered a cup of coffee, later over the hot coffee they began a conversation that has unveiled most of his uncertainties clouded around job opportunities and Red Hat technologies. Madam, I am from a non IT background, but would like to anchor my career in IT. What will be a good choice for me?

Well, it is an uncertainty with many of such candidates and they often end up in wrong choice. The best choice will be to define a career in system engineering, as the curriculum is so designed in such a way that there is no need for a technical prerequisite. Since Red Hat is offering and dominating most of the IT service platforms, with a potential of More than 1.7 million employment spaces in the industrial echo system. Furthermore, if you try to fix into a coding or development segment it would be difficult to compete with those professionals with academic background in coding.

Mam, Something that bother me is that I do have two supplementary papers in my final degree. Will I be rejected when coming to a placement?

It’s important that you clear your academics without arrears. In most of the situation it won’t hinder you in getting a placement. Nowadays, the employer is on look of professionally skilled personals with good technical knowledge and soft skills.

We have many cases from here were the students getting placed with good job packages despite of academic arrears to clear. Last year we had a case with more than 30 supplementary papers getting placed in a reputed company (won’t like to mention the name). The only advantage he had is that he was RHCE certified.

Is certification a necessary criterion to get a placement?

Obviously, if you are looking for a high profile job or desiring to have a career growth you certainly need a certification. The non-certified professionals may get a job but there growth in the profession is found to be much less in comparison with certified hands.

Certification is considered as a credible mark of proficiency in the technology. The result of a global survey conducted among IT managers says 91% of the IT managers consider certification vital in hiring and predicting employee’s success. So to be successful in an IT career few relevant and credible certifications will be an asset.

Why do you say credible certification? Is there any other? What decides credibility?

You have asked a very sensible question. There are few certification examinations were some corrupted practice of proxy writing are happening.  

Creditability is a matter of trust. Red Hat certification examination is 100% performance based. The people taking the examination have to produce valid document to prove his identity. The examination is administered in the presence of an external examiner from Red Hat.

Madam, what will be the salary range of Red Hat certified engineers?

Today, Jobs in Red Hat platform are rated to be much attractive with decent salary packages and perks. A RHCE senior Linux administrator draws an average salary of $90,000 annually while for a fresher it estimated to be around $ 70,000. In India it varies with respect to the profile of the company. The positive side is that in India the requirement of Red Hat Certified Engineers are in high demand.

Mam, Can you give any assurance that I will get a placement on completion of RHCE?
