JEE5

The Java Enterprise Edition or JEE for short is Sun's technology for the development of robust, scalable enterprise applications. JEE technology is comprised of a lot of specifications like JSE, XML, JDBC, JSP, Sevlets etc.

JEE5 technology has been released to ease the development and make the coding simpler. The main theme of Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE 5) is ease of development. While retaining the richness of the J2EE 1.4 platform, Java EE 5 offers new and updated features such as EJB 3.0, JavaServer Faces (JSF), and the latest web services APIs.

Developers today increasingly recognize the need for distributed, transactional, and portable applications that leverage the speed, security, and reliability of server-side technology. In the world of information technology, enterprise applications must be designed, built, and produced for less money, with greater speed, and with fewer resources.

New Features In JEE 5

  1. Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0
EJB 3.0 is one of the most important components of JEE 5 Specification with host of new features and enhancements.
  2. Java Persistence API providing a POJO based persistence model
Now you can use POJO objects to persist into database, its much like hibernate and other ORM tools.
  3. JavaServer Faces 1.2
JavaServer Faces technology simplifies building user interfaces for JavaServer applications.
  4. Web Services Metadata for the Java Platform 1.0
The web services metadata specification provides a rapid and simple solution to define and develop web services.
  5. Java API for XML-Based Web Services (JAX-WS) 2.0
  6. Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) 2.0
  7. Streaming API for XML (StAX) 1.0
  8. Java Web Start technology support
Standalone rich Java applications can be accessed with a single click over the network from Application Server eliminating the need of local client configurations etc.
  9. EL Resolution
The new EL spec allows you to chain, resolution for both variables and properties. Now the variable resolution can be chained with Spring.
  10. SE 5 Support
JEE supports annotations and other features of JSE.
